A Woman of Noble Character |
|
|
A Woman of Noble Character is inspired by Proverbs 31. Specific verses from that passage are used to introduce the various topics in the book. Topics include daily priorities, decorating your home, keeping your house clean, finances, shopping, homemade gift ideas, keeping your household organized, entertaining and serving, cooking and dining, recipes, and household tips. The appendix includes meal spreadsheets, menus, shopping lists, cleaning lists, and birthday charts. A resource section suggests books, websites, and local consultants that could prove helpful to the reader. The author is writing from the perspective of someone who works outside the home during the school year and stays at home during the summer--a traditional school teacher’s schedule. This is reflected in the suggested schedules. The author does make a point that these schedules are merely suggestions and can be adapted as necessary. This spiral-bound book is a great resource for home management skills. The tips are very beneficial for anyone who is (or aspires to be) a wife and/or mother. The focus on pleasing God is maintained throughout the book. For the wonderful ideas in all areas of home management, I do recommend this book. As with any resource, there may be ideas that conflict with your viewpoint. While I don’t agree with all that the author says, the overall content is beneficial. This book would be an excellent resource to share with your daughters as they seek to develop home management skills. Product review by Christy Sensenig, The Old Schoolhouse Magazine, LLC, October 2006 *************************** "A Woman of Noble Character, Becoming a Proverbs 31 Woman in Today's Busy World." It's simply written, and is a good, basic manual for teaching young girls, college-age girls, young brides, and women about some "practical ways to fulfill their role as wife, mother, or keeper of the house in a busy world." I received your book in the mail yesterday, and can hardly put it
down! You did a wonderful job with it!! It's filled with so many
wonderful ideas and down-to-earth tips, and I like how it's compiled
into short sections--it makes for convenient quick-reads (sometimes
I read for only 5 or 10 minutes at a time in between other tasks).

A Woman of Noble Character is truly a must-have manual for the 21st
Century woman/mother/Keeper of the Home. Based in the biblical
principals of Proverb 31, it presents a quick read that offers
easily applied principals through experience-based hints that
provide for practical application. Clearly, this author lives what
she writes.
Beginning with Proverbs 31: 10-31, Sikes takes each
quatrain and makes simple and practical statements about how to
apply the principle in a series of actions and how doing so will
lead to not only a more peaceful life but a biblically-based life,
as well.
A Woman of Noble Character could be used as a text
for a home economics class or for teenage girls wanting to learn how
to manage a household. The book also helps busy mothers refocus on
the important things in life. Any guide that offers tips to make the
task of running a household easier or simpler gets this reviewer's
vote. But I must add that I was pleased with the reaffirmation of
some of my own home management techniques and kindly admonished to
make my home even better. Reviewed by: Kate O'Mara
